Bringing the Play Back into Creative Work w— Sanithna Phansavanh

In this episode, I'm talking with artist Sanithna Phansavanh.  He’s a visual artist based here in Atlanta. I have always enjoyed and had an affinity for his work.  In this episode we talk about creative process, the importance of fallow periods and rest, re-orienting practices towards play and approaching spirituality with a mind open to redrawing lines.

We discuss

  • The paradox of a singular style

  • Growing up as an immigrant + how he found his way to art making

  • Work life balance challenges as a working artist who also has to make a living

  • Reaching burn out + taking a year off

  • Re-orienting his practice towards play

  • Reading + writing as a powerful source of inspiration

  • How to know when a piece is “done”

  • His current relationship with reductionism + simplicity

  • Playing with archetypes, mythology and abstraction

  • Thoughts on failure, creative process, quantum theory + the flow state
